II
Flagship — the product I built

Derry Training

A skills-based digital education platform I founded and built end to end — and I could build it because of everything that came before.

The idea

Turn 19 years of security and engineering experience into a product: practical, job-ready digital skills, delivered properly.

What I built

The whole thing — curriculum, a custom learning application, an assessment engine and a CRM — hundreds of features, designed, built and shipped.

The reach

2,000+ learners aged 16–65+ through 150+ hands-on workshops across cybersecurity, cloud, software and data; tailored digital-transformation programmes with public agencies, companies and NGOs.

Why it works

I'd already established Security Operations Centres in five countries — ~99% of the estate under 24/7 monitoring at 99.9% availability — and owned a £2M P&L. I build from real depth, not theory.

IV
The foundation

The experience behind it

Nineteen years of security, engineering and leadership — the groundwork that made Derry Training possible.

V
Case study I — Security at global scale

Security Operations across five countries

How I brought a multi-country estate under one always-on watch — and carried the P&L while doing it.

Context

At Grey Glade I owned a £2M cybersecurity product division spanning North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific — several thousand endpoints, uneven monitoring, and no single view across the ecosystem.

The challenge

Bring the whole estate under continuous, credible security monitoring — 24/7, at a real availability SLA — without breaking delivery, and while still carrying the commercial number.

My approach

Treat coverage as an operating model, not a tooling purchase: set the target (24/7 at 99.9% availability), build the practice on OSCP-aligned testing and blue-team discipline, and run it with distributed teams across the UK, Ireland, the US and Eastern Europe.

What I built

Security Operations Centres in five countries — with the handovers, ownership and escalation paths that make round-the-clock coverage actually hold across time zones.

The outcome

~99% of the ecosystem under 24/7 monitoring at a 99.9% (‘triple-nine’) availability SLA — one always-on view where before there were gaps — reported directly to C-suite and board.

What it proves

I’ve built and run security operations at global scale, not advised on them from a slide — and I can hold the security posture and the P&L in the same hand.

Case study II — 0→1 product

Building Derry Training end to end

Turning nineteen years of security and engineering depth into a product — built, shipped and run.

Context

Skills-based digital education was underserved: people needed real, hands-on routes into tech, not passive video courses. I decided to build it myself rather than wait for someone else to.

The challenge

Create a genuine end-to-end platform and a business around it — not a prototype — and get real learners through to real outcomes.

My approach

Own every layer: design the curriculum, build the software, and run the commercial model — pricing, go-to-market and delivery — with 1:1 mentoring and bootcamps alongside the product.

What I built

The whole platform — curriculum, a custom learning application, an assessment engine and a CRM — with hundreds of features designed, shipped and deployed.

The outcome

2,000+ learners aged 16–65+ and 150+ hands-on workshops across cybersecurity, cloud, software, data and digital marketing, with strong certification pass rates including CompTIA A+; tailored programmes with public agencies, companies and NGOs.

What it proves

I conceive, build and run entire products and businesses — so I’ll own whatever outcome you put in front of me, and I’ll build, not just manage.

About

I'm a founder who builds. I created Derry Training — a skills-based digital education platform — and built it end to end, from the curriculum to the learning application, assessment engine and CRM.

I could do it because of the 19 years behind it: establishing Security Operations Centres in five countries and owning a £2M product-division P&L at Grey Glade; leading enterprise security engineering at Avendai Group; and blue-team security at NCC Group, back to a decade of hands-on IT and software at FP Global. I'm authorised to work in the USA, UK and EU.

Education

  • The Open University — BEng Engineering (in progress)
  • St Andrews — MA Software Eng. & Philosophy w/ Linguistics
  • Queen's Belfast — BSc Computer Science w/ Maths & Psychology
  • St Columb's College — 4 A-Levels, 10 GCSEs

Certifications

  • Security — OSCP · CEH · Security+ · CISM
